Mauritius is an island nation in the Indian Ocean. It is located about 2,000 kms (1,200 miles) off the south east coast of Africa.
The island is 2,040 square kilometres (790 sq miles) in area. It is 65 km (40 mi) long and 45 km (30 mi) wide.
Vaccinations are not currently recommended for Mauritius. If you are travelling to Mauritius from a Yellow Fever zone, you’ll need to have a valid Yellow Fever inoculation certificate. It is advisable to check with your GP for the latest health advise at least three weeks before travelling.

It is the Mauritian Rupee. Sterling, Euros and US Dollars are widely accepted as are most major credit cards.
The constitution of Mauritius does not mention an official language. Due to the history of the island both English and French are spoken throughout. Mauritian Creole, a derivative of French is spoken by locals in informal settings.
Port Louis is the island’s capital located in the north west of Mauritius.
